Working as a student in France

International students can work in France without applying for a temporary work permit as long as they have a residence card marked 'student'. While studying, international students are allowed to work up to 964 hours per year. Students from the European Union and the European Economic Area also have the right to work, as long as they are enrolled in the student social security scheme.

An exception is Algerian students, who are subject to the Franco-Algerian Agreement on Employment Law. This means they have to apply for a special permit and their annual work allowance is around 800 hours per year.
