Sookmyung Girls' High School's Lee Min-ji (177cm, G, F) led the team to the top by emerging as the best star in the girls' high school.
Sookmyung Girls' High School beat Dongju Girls' High School with a 72-51 victory in the final round of the women's high school at the 79th National Men's and Women's Class Basketball Championship held at the Sports Center in Yeonggwang, South Jeolla Province on Sunday. Sookmyung Girls' High School, which pushed the opponent with overwhelming performance from the beginning, did not lose concentration until the end and won the second title of the season. It is the first time in 15 years that it has won the championship since 2009.
Lee Min-ji, a third-year player in the game, played full time and became the top contributor to the championship with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists, including three 3-pointers.
After completing all the schedules, Lee Min-ji, who was interviewed, said, "Everything we prepared went well. The coach and coach did a good job analyzing the opponent before the game, and the players seemed to have implemented it well. I tried to play more hyphide or talking than usual to raise the atmosphere," looking back on the game.
Lee Min-ji, who was avenged against Dongju Girls' High School, opened the scoring as if she had made up her mind from the beginning, and played one more step in rebounding and defense to burn up her fighting spirit.
"Considering that I lost to Dongju Girls' High School during the Federation's presidency, I had a mindset to actively participate in the rebound and catch the bad things from the beginning," he said. "We tried to thoroughly defend against pressure and rebound offensives because if the ball is easily put under the goal, we will be at a disadvantage. Above all, (Song) Yoon-ha and (Yang) Hye-yoon defended well under the goal ."
Lee performed remarkably well in the entire competition. He played in six games and recorded 23.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 3.5 assists on average. He showed off his capability as an all-around guard for offense and defense.
Lee Min-ji, who quietly performed her part throughout the tournament, even enjoyed the MVP award, doubling her joy. "It's my first time to win the MVP award in basketball. I aimed to win the MVP award before entering this season," Lee said. “I was nervous because the name was called too slowly.”
Lee-ah said, "Since winning the long-term title of the association, people around me have supported me a lot and showed interest. I'm happy that I've repaid it. The King of Kings battle will begin next week, and I want to continue this momentum and win the King of Kings battle."
Lee Min-ji, who is considered the most promising candidate for the WKBL Rookie of the Year draft, has been on an elite course, going through all national teams by age. He has considered Park Hye-jin (BNK) as a role model since his elementary school days in Seocho. I wondered if he still had the same mind.
Lee Min-ji drew her future image, saying, "Park Hye-jin is still a role model. I want to be a guard who can shoot well like Park Hye-jin and see No. 1 and No. 2."
