The relationship between music and drugs

Drugs and Music; Perfect couple

If you're like us, the sudden lack of any concerts, festivals or just good live jams is slowly breaking your soul. There is only so much music to watch on YouTube.

But there is no doubt that drugs and music have always been synonymous! Here's a little distraction to get you through the day for all you music and drug fans out there.

Marijuana music frenzy

Some would say that nothing goes better with reggae than a little Mary-Jane, and no concert would be complete with that scent in the background. Legal or not, it has had its place in music since the beginning of music and has helped many musicians feel their rhythm.

Obviously, Snoop Dogg, Willie Nelson and Bob Marley were big proponents of this herb, but many wouldn't think that Louis Armstrong and Lady Gaga would admit their talent. The ability to free the brain and allow the soul to filter has long been an excuse for many musicians. And let's face it, when you're this famous, you don't need an apology.

Even Rihanna is a big dumb fan. She doesn't shy away from the spotlight when it comes to weed, her Instagram is full of smokin' pics and she's even launched her own label; Rihanna no less.

Festival drug testing

Not only is New Zealand killing it right now when it comes to handling COVID-19 (not a single case in the community as of April 2021), but it's also one step ahead of other nations when it comes to drugs and festivals. Understanding that a festival is different than a bar or nightclub where you can easily get evicted, at many festivals you camp right on site and are in the middle of nowhere.

Instead, the NZ Drug Foundation was allowed to conduct free and impartial pill and drug testing at all concerts and festivals in New Zealand. They understand that recreational drugs will be present and have spent their resources on keeping the kids safe instead of policing them. Free music download They also offer chill out zones at longer festivals if you've taken on too much and need to clear your mind. There was nothing like that at Woodstock, but there was no need then either. Lounge areas may also include band-related games.

LSD and the Beatles

Given their reputation as typical boys next door, it may surprise many how heavily the quartet hit drugs in their early days. Rumored to have started with Bob Dylan's offering of weed, they soon switched to Preludin to help keep them on their way up.

But when the summer of 1965 rolls around and John and George unknowingly take LSD, a new and crazy season begins for the foursome. After having such a good time, the two later stated that they "couldn't relate on any level anymore because the acid had changed us so much". They twisted Paul and Ringo's arm and the rest is Revolver history.

Booze and beats

Alcohol and music have also gone hand in hand since the dawn of time. From song lyrics, commercials, and famous musicians tending towards alcoholism, why do these two make such a happy couple?
